Some children during their pre-school and school lives may have a special educational need of some kind. They may find it harder to learn than most children of the same age, have a disability or need short term special help in terms of speech and language therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, etc. Most children get over their difficulty quickly with the right help, for others the effects may last longer.
Special needs in pre-school children, may be identified by the family’s Health Visitor, particularly at the 2-year-old developmental check, but it is also the duty and responsibility of the Pre-School Staff. Hyde Pre-school has an obligation to be aware of any difficulties or developmental problems a child may be experiencing (however temporary) and mention it to the parents. The right help and strategies can then be found, so we can all work together in the best interests of the child.
Georgina Moss is the Special Educational Needs Co-Ordinator (SENCo) for Hyde Pre-School. If you would like any advice, information or would like to discuss any concerns about your child, please speak to her at any time. Strict confidentiality will be maintained.
